Past Events

In August 2006, we closed our Retreat Guest House and welcomed the Companions of the Cross who now reside in this building. Their presence and prayerful support are a blessed addition to the St Bernard complex.

We were fortunate to have Sr. Elizabeth Kim join us from Korea in 2006 to learn English, but as all things come to an end, and we were sad to see her leave in mid January. Her mission and community in Denmark were anxious too for her to come. Sr. Elizabeth is on the left and Sr. Sarah is on the right. Sr. Sarah is also from Korea studies Business administration at York University.

Christmas

Christmas is always a joyful community event for us here in Canada. We celebrate the Christmas octave with all the sisters gathering at each CPS convent in the Toronto area for an afternoon or evening. Each community hosts a prayer service usually followed by a festive meal and recreation.

Vigil Mass at Christmas brings the sisters from the other houses and we celebrate the birth of Christ together. This year, the most senior resident in the retirement home carried the Baby Jesus to the crib with the youngest sister pushing her wheel chair. (In early February 2007 this resident went home to Jesus surrounded by family and is sadly missed by the community here.)

The sisters from Korea dressed in their traditional dresses brought up the offertory. Refreshments were served in the sister's dining room following mass for all sisters and guests.

Congregational News

Strengthening our link and unity with the congregation as a whole throughout the world began on January 1st once again, when we began our preparation for the general chapter to be held in South Africa in July 2007. Booklets for our common reflection arrived from Rome and groups formed to begin our discussions and sharing. This common exercise of praying and sharing about our charism and spirituality brings unity within our communities and congregation as a whole. Everyone's input is important and will get consideration as it travels with the delegate to the General Chapter.

Please pray for our delegates as they gather to elect a new superior general and plan the direction for our congregation in the coming years. This year we will celebrate 125 years of the foundation of Mariannhill where we, as well as our brothers, the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill were founded.
